Today Eclipse Aviation, manufacturer of the world’s first very light jet (VLJ), and Strategic Aeronautics unveiled the AvioTM Flight Bag (AFB), a suite of software applications that extend Eclipse’s Avio Total Aircraft Integration beyond the aircraft. From the convenience of their homes, offices or hotel rooms, Eclipse 500 operators will be able to tap into their AFBs to expedite all flight operations. Future integration of the AFB with the Avio system will provide Eclipse 500 customers with a completely paperless cockpit solution.
“The Avio Flight Bag addresses the growing operational needs of pilots, providing innovative, convenient and safe methods of ensuring proper planning and flight operations,” said Vern Raburn, president and CEO of Eclipse Aviation. “The Eclipse
500 has been designed with a very high degree of systems automation, and this product advances our goal of delivering unmatched avionics integration and operations capabilities to our customers.”
Features & Functionality
The Avio Flight Bag will be offered either as a standalone software application for use on a Windows based PC, or bundled with the newly introduced Fujitsu P1610D convertible tablet PC.
“We are proud to partner with Eclipse to bring innovative information and display technologies to the revolutionary Eclipse 500 aircraft,” said Jon Paris, president and founder of Strategic Aeronautics. “Avio Total Aircraft Integration has gained a reputation as a market pacesetter, and this new offering extends this leadership by merging our unique aviation information technologies with the adventurous spirit of the Eclipse 500 movement.”
The AFB will be optional equipment available to all Eclipse 500 aircraft operating under Part 91, Part 91 Subpart K, or Part 135. In its initial implementation, the AFB will include the following functionality:
Future versions of Avio Flight Bag software will provide for geo-referenced enroute and approach charts, and full connectivity with on-board Eclipse 500 Avio systems, providing enhanced in-flight functionality.
At only 2.2 pounds, the P1610D offers a full windows operating system with 1 GB memory, 1.2GHz Intel Core Solo Processor, a 8.9 inch indoor/outdoor transflective screen with a bi-directional hinge, high-capacity battery with up to six hours of life, integrated WLAN and Bluetooth, and shock sensor hard drive protection.
Pricing
AFB software is priced at $395, or $4,295 for the hardware/software bundle. Both offerings are available for purchase by anyone, including Eclipse 500 operators and aviation enthusiasts. An annual software update fee of $295 is required for updated AFB data. The Avio Flight Bag products will be available for purchase and delivery beginning December 1, 2006.
