Eclipse Aviation Corporation Announces Vendors For Avionics and Integrated Electronics in the Eclipse 500 Jet
Avidyne Corporation and BAE Systems Aircraft Controls, Inc., selected
EAA AirVenture 2000, OSHKOSH, WI - July 26, 2000 - Eclipse Aviation today announced agreements with Avidyne and BAE Systems Aircraft Controls, Inc., two of the industry's most respected avionics and integrated electronics vendors. The companies will supply Eclipse Aviation with the complete electronics systems for its modern and affordable Eclipse 500 jet aircraft.
"We have selected two world-class companies as partners for development of our integrated electronics and avionics systems," said Vern Raburn, president and CEO of Eclipse Aviation. "Avidyne is truly on the leading edge of aviation electronics innovation and is setting the standard for low-cost display technology and modular, open-architecture designs. BAE Systems, created from the merger between BAE and Marconi Electronics Systems, brings a long heritage of high-quality avionics design. Together they are a very powerful combination."
The Eclipse 500 standard avionics will include large-screen dual LCD flight displays. The avionics suite features integrated GPS-based flight management systems, digital flight control systems (DFCS), dual air data and attitude heading reference systems (AHRS), dual full authority digital engine control system (FADEC), and aircraft utility control system. It will also include dual VHF Nav/Coms, dual localizer/glideslope receivers, dual Mode S transponders and weather radar.
"We're pleased to see Eclipse Aviation's commitment to bringing modern technology to jet aircraft. We are especially excited to work with Eclipse because our business approaches are so similar," said Dan Schwinn, president and CEO of Avidyne. "This makes for a very nice fit having our low-cost, next-generation display systems tightly integrated into this next-generation aircraft." "We are pleased to have been awarded the opportunity to contribute to the successful design and manufacture of the Eclipse 500 jet, an aircraft that offers an unprecedented value to business and personal aviation," said David Dallob, President and CEO of BAE Systems Aircraft Controls, Inc.
Full-size and fuselage mock-ups of the Eclipse 500 jet are available for viewing July 26 through August 1, 2000, at the EAA AirVenture 2000. Eclipse Aviation's exhibit tent is located just southwest of AeroShell Square (formerly known as the West Ramp). Additional information about Avidyne Corporation can be found at www.avidyne.com. About Eclipse:
Eclipse Aviation is in the business of designing, certifying and
producing modern, affordable jet aircraft that will revolutionize
the transportation market. The company is applying advanced
electronics systems, manufacturing and business practices
to produce aircraft that cost less than a quarter of today's
small jet aircraft, will be significantly safer and easier
to operate than those of today, and have the lowest cost
of ownership ever achieved in a jet aircraft.
The goal of Eclipse is to bring the word "personal" into aviation, making it possible
for commercial air passengers to move directly between cities on a quick, affordable and convenient
basis. It will also allow pilot owners to enter the world of jet-powered aviation.
